Located at the South Arm of Lake Charlevoix and at the mouth of the wild and scenic Jordan River, the Jordan Art Walk awaits you. Currently, there are Twenty Four (24) magnificent sculptures of various art mediums created by Artists from throughout the U.S. and on display in the City of East Jordan’s Memorial, Sportsman’s and G.A.R. Parks. Also on the connector trail to the Friends of the Jordan River Watershed Building and The Don and Eileen Klein Boaredwalk Trail.
Stroll at your leisure. Take photographs (be sure to post them on the East Jordan Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook Page, #Jordan Art Walk), picnic, possibly see a bald eagle or osprey flying overhead, or check out the boats in our marina as you walk over the “Joining Jordan” pedestrian bridge over the Jordan River to reach both parks.
After enjoying the Jordan Art Walk, dine in one of our restaurants, enjoy a beverage, visit our locally owned small businesses or take in more of our local attractions.
The Jordan Art Walk began as a “Covid-19 Project” in August of 2020 and was officially dedicated with a program and ribbon-cutting ceremony. Each artist cut a ribbon at their sculpture with their sponsors holding the ribbon on June 16th, 2021. The idea of such a “walk” or “park” filled with sculptures had been discussed several years prior but was shelved when the “Great Recession” hit. The idea resurfaced in the Summer of 2020 and a committee was formed with representatives from the Friends of the Jordan, East Jordan Area Chamber of Commerce, Jordan River Arts Council, City of East Jordan, and Active Recovery Physical Therapy and Sports Rehab. The collaboration and the scope of the project quickly gathered community and regional support and sponsorships.
Besides giving individuals a chance to get outside, exercise, and enjoy the natural beauty and spectacular creations, the Jordan Art Walk allows the artists to showcase their work and offer it for sale. Each sculpture is on display for three years. If they are sold during the three-year period, the artist must replace them with another piece. Annually, six to seven sculptures will be added. The length of the walk and placement of the art will extend throughout the community as a walking tour. It is the wish of the committee members and sponsors that this artistic attraction will serve as an economic asset to local businesses.
Attention Northern Michigan Artists! You are invited to submit a sculpture for placement in the Jordan Art Walk exhibit in East Jordan Michigan. Our goal is to integrate works of art into our city’s natural environment that will engage and resonate with our citizens and visitors. Have your art seen by locals and area visitors for years to come while on display in the City of East Jordan’s Memorial and Sportsman’s Parks.
Interested? Please visit our Call to Artists page on how to apply! Entries are needed by April 15, 2023.
